Bridal Balance

I was just talking to my friend Jennifer Bell today whose company is one of our suppliers for guest favors, gift baskets and welcome bags.  She was asking me how I manage my business with all my other commitments like family, community and volunteering.

The key, I told her, was balance.  It’s really one of my favorite words to live by.  When you become engaged, a bride to be needs to balance her current life with the new and often consuming job of planning a wedding.  It can be a large task not just for the bride but also for the groom as well as  friends and family members.  Many couples choose to use a planner to help with this (which of course I wholeheartedly recommend!)  However if you choose to go it alone here are a few tips to keep your life in balance so you can enjoy being a bride.

First, BE THE BRIDE!  This is a very special time and you should embrace and enjoy it!  It is unlikely you will have this much attention lavished on you at any other time in your life!

Second, BE GRATEFUL.    It’s a good idea to show your appreciation to all those who are helping you during this time (even if their “help” is not requested by you).  It’s especially important to show your gratitude to your future spouse.  You have found that very special person to share your life and you are committing to him or her.  Showing gratitude will make both you and your partner feel loved and make planning easier! (Especially when you are having disagreements about wedding details like entree choices, song selections and seating charts!)

Third, BALANCE your life.  You have just taken on the task of planning a wedding.  With or without help, you will need to balance this with your current life and commitments.  Carve out a special time once or twice a week to attend to wedding details.  Whether it’s a few calls to vendors, or sitting down with your fiance over coffee to create the guest list, pencil the time into your calendar.  This way you know you will have focused time to work on the wedding without other distractions.  You’ll feel more relaxed about your progress if you plan each step and check it off.

Finally, HAVE FUN!
