Katie and Nate

Katie and Nate’s wedding was full of surprises!  When I first asked Katie what colors she’d like for her wedding, she surprised me and said “All of them!”  It was then I knew that Katie would be one of my most favorite brides!  The deal was cinched when she told me she worked in the food industry and was a “foodie.”  These traits, along with her beauty that shines from within and gives her  a lovely glow, makes it easy to see why Nate fell for Katie.  Both share a love of travel and have a history of family members who have circumnavigated the globe.  It was a fun challenge to incorporate color, food and travel into this eclectic one-of-a-kind, truly unique wedding celebration.

Katie made her entrance in her grandmother’s wedding dress, which brought tears to the eyes of her surprised Grandmother.  We planned to punctuate the ceremony with color by planting helium balloons along the path to the ceremony site.  About an hour before the ceremony however the wind kicked up and as the balloons were thrown against the dry meadow grass, well…. pop!  So I thought quickly and enlisted a group of friends and relatives to hold the balloons as Katie and her parents made their way up the hill.  The surprise of walking through a group of loved ones and then being escorted to the alter by them was an unplanned surprised that surpassed the original plan!

After the ceremony Katie surprised guests again by changing into a beautiful blush colored linen gown.  The cocktail hour featured a signature drink inspired by the tropics renamed The Steamboat Smash!  The couple delighted everyone with an eclectic menu and  beer and wine pairings to go with a selection of appetizers and gourmet pizzas fired in a brick oven. (They were delicious!)

To spice things up, Katie and Nate used mini Tabasco bottles as anchors for their table seating cards!  Colorful cotton candy was placed in glass pedestals surrounded by exotic and unique flowers including fiddle fern stems, dahlias, and orchids.  To ground the table scape, Katie’s mom made  stunning ribbon table runners and we chose an elegant white silk table linen to off set the funky and colorful napkins. The party went into the wee hours as everyone danced the night away, gathered around a bonfire for s’mores and celebrated the wonderful couple!  To Katie and Nate: Bon Voyage as you set sail together on the journey of life!
