When and How to Plan Your Wedding

Summer is the perfect season for romance!  That’s why it’s the most popular wedding season and right now it’s in full swing!  Long days, starry night skies and warm weather not only make for great destination weddings, but also can be great time to pop the question and get engaged!  With most engagements lasting about ten to fourteen months, that means it’s time to start planning for your wedding NEXT summer right now!

One of the main jobs of a wedding planner is to plan ahead and make sure couples are moving along in the planning process.  I often send detailed checklists to my clients with customized to do lists every month so they can tackle just a few items each month and feel accomplished.  This greatly reduces the stress and anxiety that can come from planning a wedding, well, without a plan!

Before you select any vendors or put down any deposits, I advise clients to think about their overall budget, approximate number of guests and a date or two that will work.  Once you have those few items ironed out,  it will help you to be a lot more productive when selecting the the rest of your vendors.  Check out our shopping page for a downloadable budget so you can get started.  Another helpful decision to have in mind is the wedding theme or style.  That will come into play when you are selecting your venue, which should be next on your planning agenda.  Once you have the budget, date, style and venue the rest of your decisions are generally easy.  It’s really nice to have your date and venue so you can begin to really plan, send out save the dates and have fun with all the decor and details!

If you are not working with a planner, or haven’t hired one yet, you should check out the vendor booking timeline from my friends at Wedding Wire.  They have created a simple, easy to read graphic to help you know when to book each vendor.  If you need more detailed planning, then feel free to call The Main Event at 303-570-6570 for advice!  We offer everything from hourly consultations to full planning services!
